Our Florist Shop was established around 1986, Our store used to be a butcher shop before the first owner converted it into a florist shop so we have a huge walk in concrete cool room which is awesome for us to store our flowers in and keep them super fresh!

The Flower Hut has had 3 owners over this period with me (Jodie) being the current owner. I purchased the business in 2003. I started out as a florist working wherever I could while I put myself through TAFE 12 years ago. At one stage I worked in 3 different florist shops at the same time! Going from one to the other even working a morning shift in one and an afternoon shift in another. I studied floristry at Padstow TAFE Campus and did quite well, I was the highest Achiever for Floristry Certificate II, Floristry Certificate III and Advance Design in Floristry.

Now Im back at Padstow TAFE as a part time florist teacher, sharing my skills and current relative Florist industry knowledge with my students and I love it.

I have 3 employees who work with me at The Flower Hut – they are all fully qualified florists having completed their studies over the years at Padstow TAFE also.

Miss Jane has been on board for 6 years and is great at what she does! When she is not saving the spiders and critters that we sometimes come across in our flowers and foliage, she is busy entering into florist industry competitions. Miss Jane always has some kind of floristry or crafty project on the go, she is also in the process of completing her advance design in floristry at Padstow TAFE.

Deb is busy with her family but loves coming in to help out, she gets in and gets things done and particularly likes the corporate stuff.

Ros had her own florist shop many moons ago but prefers to be the employee these days. We call her the bouquet queen because she can pump thousands of them out quickly which is great for me at our peak trading periods such as Valentine’s Day and Mothers Day!

The Flower Hut South Hurstville has won a few awards over the past 8 years since I have been the boss which has been really cool. We pride ourselves on quality fresh cut flowers, customer service and industry specific knowledge. If you visit us at the store, we pay special attention to ensuring a warm and inviting ambience, I try to source some interesting bits and pieces from the flower markets, my brother sends down willow and air fern from his property, Miss Jane often turns up with sticks and branches she finds on her evening walks… oh and Deb brings in different sized and shaped palm husks now and then as well - so there is always something interesting to look at.

I would say that we pride ourselves on quality and not so much quantity as I like to visit the flower markets 3 times a week to ensure all our stock is really fresh. We also pride ourselves on good old fashion customer service, because at the end of the day our customers are what keep us in business!

Our attention to detail and customer service was proven in 2006 with The Flower Hut - South Hurstville winning the prestigious "Florist of the Year Award" awarded by Sydney Flower Markets at the annual Flower Growers Ball.

The Flower Hut - South Hurstville beat over 200 Florists across NSW and ACT to win this florist award and even though this was a few years ago now, we have still constantly been in the running for this prestigious florist industry award nearly every year which proves our ongoing consistency and commitment to our customers, ensuring we are always providing excellent quality fresh flowers and great customer service!

Weddings
Our creative enthusiasm is specialised with arranging fresh flowers for weddings and receptions. You can view our wedding gallery page for pictures and testimonials, and if we ever do your wedding, be sure to send us some pictures so we can put your special day on our website! Fulfilling the vision and dreams for all brides on their special day is a passion that all our floristry team shares.

We take great care in selecting premium flowers for the weddings that we do. We ensure all the flowers are properly treated with special conditioning techniques to ensure your flowers look fresh and last as long as possible throughout your wedding day without a water supply. When we undertake weddings we employ extra staff to assist us with the workload to ensure the weddings have our full focus while still running the every day to day business of our florist shop.

The buttonholes and corsages we make for you are wired and parafilmed on an item called flor clip which ensures they are easy to pin on and stay in place throughout the day.

We research and provide samples free of charge prior to your wedding date to ensure we select the correct type of fresh flowers and colours you like. We can help you carefully plan colours and styles for yourself, bridesmaids, groom, grooms men and for the wedding ceremony through to the reception.

Our well trained eye for detail and the love of beautiful fresh flowers allows us to create your dream event. From table centerpieces, cake tops to wedding bouquets, we will design anything from the most intimate to the most spectacular arrangements.
